MY TRIP TO IRELAND, NORTHERN IRELAND AND SCOTLAND

Day 15: The Blair Castle Project

On our finally touring day in Scotland, we headed South in order to end up in Edinburgh. We were flying out of there in the morning.

We stopped off to tour Blair Castle. In addition to the castle itself, the property also offers several acres of gardens. Unfortunately, rain and cold kept us indoors that day.

Blair Castle dates back to 1629 as a single tower. It was built on the land while the Earl of the area was away. Despite complaints to the King, the tower still stands today and is the highest point of the castle.

Over the years, additions to the castle transformed its look based on the popular forms of architecture during each time period.

The land around the castle offers visitors the opportunity to camp on the property. Cows graze peacefully just inside the iron castle gate.

After our tour, we decided to grab some lunch in the restaurant at the castle. I took the opportunity to try a scone. It tasted like a biscuit. I don't think I'll need to have another, but it did taste good.

While we were at Blair Castle, I kept a look out to see if any of the cows were of the Highland variety. I was hoping for one last chance to grab a shot of one. Unfortunately, the cows there were as regular as the ones I had previously photographed.

We continued back to Edinburgh, taking some pictures as we crossed the bridge. We soon ran into a traffic jam as a soccer match was letting out along the route we were traveling.

Below are some shots of Blair Castle and the trip back to Edinburgh. Photography inside the castle is not permitted, so I only have a few pictures from the site:

After arriving in Edinburgh, we headed out for one last night on the town before our very early flight the next morning. Along the way, we encountered the alley pictured in the last couple of shots of the slide show. Feel free to make up your own joke here. Sometimes humor writes its own lines and doesn't need any help along the way.

The Bed and Breakfast we stayed in didn't seem to actually have any real parking. The driveway only appeared to hold one car: the owner's. We were told to park in the school lot next door. Since it was late Friday evening, we weren't in any danger of the lot being needed by the school.
