Day 15: The Blair Castle Project
On our finally touring day in Scotland, we headed South in order to end up in Edinburgh. We were flying out of there in the morning.
We stopped off to tour Blair Castle. In addition to the castle itself, the property also offers several acres of gardens. Unfortunately, rain and cold kept us indoors that day.
Blair Castle dates back to 1629 as a single tower. It was built on the land while the Earl of the area was away. Despite complaints to the King, the tower still stands today and is the highest point of the castle.
Over the years, additions to the castle transformed its look based on the popular forms of architecture during each time period.
The land around the castle offers visitors the opportunity to camp on the property. Cows graze peacefully just inside the iron castle gate.
After our tour, we decided to grab some lunch in the restaurant at the castle. I took the opportunity to try a scone. It tasted like a biscuit. I don't think I'll need to have another, but it did taste good.
While we were at Blair Castle, I kept a look out to see if any of the cows were of the Highland variety. I was hoping for one last chance to grab a shot of one. Unfortunately, the cows there were as regular as the ones I had previously photographed.
We continued back to Edinburgh, taking some pictures as we crossed the bridge. We soon ran into a traffic jam as a soccer match was letting out along the route we were traveling.
Below are some shots of Blair Castle and the trip back to Edinburgh. Photography inside the castle is not permitted, so I only have a few pictures from the site:
